What we do

Originally inspired by a school visit to our tea and coffee factory more than two decades years ago, we now repurpose waste materials from our business and 25 other local business too. This provides a valuable resource for local crafters as well as environmentally conscious materials for schools and playgroups.

What we do with the waste materials we receive:

Donate

We welcome donations from our local businesses and members of the community who donate clean, scrap and unwanted craft materials that can be repurposed for sale at a low cost whilst raising funds for local good causes.

Re-Use

Some of our scrap is used to make products to promote educational awareness at shows and fairs working with children and young people. Preparations for these events come from our volunteers and by young adults with learning difficulties who come to us for work placements.

Sell

A selection of donated materials are kept for sale in our Scrap Store to sell for hobbies and crafting, raising funds for local social enterprises as well as supporting tree planting and tree preservation in Yorkshire.

Who we work with

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust

A small charity based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales who focus on tree planting and preservation, meadow creation and working with small landowners to replant areas where tree cover has been reduced. The team at YDMT work with groups who might not otherwise be able to access the countryside, such as care leavers and asylum seekers in order to show that the dales are for everyone.

Horticap

A charity that provides horticultural experience for adults with additional needs in a supportive and caring environment. Based at Bluecoat Wood nurseries in Harrogate the team have worked for many years in partnership with the Cone Exchange.

Henshaws

Henshaws offers a creative and supportive environment for adults with additional needs. The Cone Exchange has worked in partnership with Henshaws in order to offer supported work experience for their students for many years which has in some cases led on to paid work.

Hearing from our partnerships

The Cone Exchange team are a pleasure to work with and it is a real privilege to partner with such an inspiring community project.

Yorkshire Dales Millenium Trust

We love the Cone Exchange. The money raised has helped us enormously but its more than that – our students and staff love to visit. Every town should have a Cone Exchange.

Horticap

To date, Cone Exchange donations have enabled the planting of over 2000 native broadleaf trees in the Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale, creating vital habitat for both people and nature to enjoy.

Yorkshire Dales Millenium Trust

Finding welcoming and disability aware organisations such as the Cone Exchange is crucial for the work we do here at Henshaws College.
